About

Moon Blossom Herbs, inspired by the late herbalist Lilian Godbe of Dancing Herbs, began in the fall of 2006 by herbalist Bethany Holthaus. After Lilian passed away, Bethany purchased her herbal recipes, inventory and supplies. Many of Lilian’s formulas and recipes are still being used by Moon Blossom Herbs.

Bethany was trained at the Northwest School of Botanical Studies (NWSBS) by Christa Sinadinas in Arcata, CA. The NWSBS teaches a combination of Western and Eastern herbalism with a special emphasis on local and native plants and their uses. Throughout the course, there were many hours spent in the field identifying and harvesting medicinal plants as well as hours spent discussing and making various herbal preparations. The course also included a thorough introduction to anatomy and physiology, for the purpose of acquiring a deeper understanding of the human body and how the herbs influence the various organ systems.

Moon Blossom Herbs was founded on the belief that herbal remedies are a more harmonious, gentle, and effective way of treating disease and maintaining the body’s state of health. Unlike prescribed and over the counter medications, herbal remedies treat the whole person by improving the health of the affected system so that healing can be attained naturally and without harmful side effects.

Many of the herbs used in Moon Blossom Herbs’ products are locally wildcrafted from the surrounding area with the philosophy of maintaining the plants population for future seasons, in mind. Bethany also maintains a small herb farm on her parents’ property from which many of the herbs are harvested. The remaining herbs and ingredients are produced by a couple of herbal companies in Southern Oregon from which Bethany orders.

Bethany lives in beautiful, rural Trinity County, California near the small town of Lewiston. She lives in an old farmhouse on the creek with her fiancée, Steve and within walking distance from her parents homestead, where she does her gardening and prepares herbal preparations. The couple are expecting their first child in early Sept. 2008.
